When our client stood on a nail while working at the airport, it went through his boot and punctured his foot. He was off work for three days with pain and discomfort. He had not intended to make a claim. However, his employer refused to pay his attendance bonus (worth £600) due to him being off due to the accident. He went back and forth with them, but they refused to pay.
He therefore contacted Unite the Union, who instructed us. His employer has now paid him the £600 attendance bonus, and in addition, we have subsequently secured £1,050 for him in compensation for his injury. While not a large settlement, it does show the benefit to Unite the Union members of the union’s legal services as he would not otherwise have received his bonus or the compensation.
