Allan McDougall Solicitors is delighted to continue our Lawscot Foundation sponsorship for the fourth consecutive year.

The Lawscot Foundation undertakes sterling work to support aspiring solicitors from less-advantaged backgrounds, providing financial assistance as well as mentoring, networking support, and work experience opportunities. In addition to our financial contribution, which provides a bursary for a Scots law LLB student, last year we provided mentoring by Julie Harris, a partner in the firm, welcomed Lawscot Foundation scholar Tom Campbell for work experience, and hosted the Lawscot Challenge.

Julie Harris, head of our personal injury team, commented: “The firm’s sponsorship of the Lawscot Foundation is very important to me on a personal level. The Foundation provides brilliant support and opportunities to some law students who are very academically able, but face some other barrier/s that may otherwise hinder their progress. It is important to me that the legal profession properly reflects and understands those in society who face various significant barriers in life. Events we’ve held involving the students have been inspiring, uplifting and at times moving.”

Jackie Raitt, a partner in our personal Injury team, added: “The Lawscot Foundation provides wonderful opportunities and support to academically talented students from less advantaged backgrounds in Scotland while they go through their legal education journey. Over the past few years, we have enjoyed meeting some of those individuals, and introducing them to our three specialist fields of personal injury, employment and family law. I have been impressed by the calibre of the students, their attention to detail, and their ability to grasp new legal concepts quickly and put them into action. We have enjoyed many laughs along the way too. I look forward to our continued support of the charity and to working with both the charity organisers and the students themselves.”

Dr Amber Shadle, Outreach and Engagement Manager at The Law Society of Scotland, said: “We are so grateful for the support of Allan McDougall Solicitors. Through sponsoring the Lawscot Foundation, they have ensured we can continue to offer bursaries, mentoring, and events to students who would otherwise be unable to attend university. In the past year, they have helped us to offer bursaries to 10 Lawscot Foundation scholars, alongside work experience opportunities which has enabled our students to see what working in the law might look like. It’s needless to say that their support has been life changing for our students!”
