Lawscot Foundation students excel in Lawscot Challenge

Our Jackie Raitt, Michelle Wilson and Heather Webster enjoyed taking part in the Lawscot Foundation’s Lawscot Challenge yesterday.

Four teams of law students attended the office on rotation throughout the afternoon. This was a fantastic opportunity for both the firm and the students to engage with each other, and it provided the students with an opportunity to be given a first-hand insight into what it is like to be a trainee solicitor at Allan McDougall Solicitors.

Jackie Raitt, a partner in our personal injury team, commented: “Our task was to set the students a challenge to test their leadership and communication skills. The task also provided them with an opportunity to gain an insight into the type of law that we practise: personal injury, employment, and family law. We set them a role play exercise whereby one student assumed the role of trainee solicitor, and the other played the role of a prospective client seeking initial advice regarding a potential personal injury claim.

All teams were excellent, and each student really threw themselves into their respective role! We had many laughs over the course of the afternoon, and our trainees, Heather and Michelle, shared their own positive experiences with the students. We thoroughly enjoyed the day and meeting each student.

The Lawscot Foundation was pleased to get an overwhelming amount of positive feedback from the students. Very well done to all the students and everyone involved in this initiative. We look forward to the next one!”

Allan McDougall Solicitors is a sponsor of the Lawscot Foundation, which supports aspiring solicitors from less-advantaged backgrounds. Scots law LLB students are provided with financial assistance as well as mentoring, networking support and work experience opportunities.
